You and St Paul’s Lutheran Church Wellington, through LCA International Mission, sponsor a team of local Evangelists lead by Pastor Amnuay in the Thailand province of Nan – 700km north of Bangkok – to continue the spreading of the Gospel to the Lua people. Each evangelist is responsible for several local village churches. They have seen the church in Nan continue to grow, freeing people from war – the power and control of spirit doctors, to peace – living in the grace and love of the Gospel.

The Evangelical Lutheran Church of Thailand (ELCT) started the Nan church in 2002, today 1200 members have come to know Jesus through the work of Pastor Amnuay and the local evangelists.

Each of the evangelists tells of a time when they first came to know Jesus.

Pim and Daw came to know Jesus through Pastor Amnuay. Chay through a brother. Nen through her parent’s conversion, Khun through the peace and love she saw in a family displaying a picture of Jesus in their house, Bank through a preacher. Each has a story of freedom in Jesus.

Min became a Christian 17 years ago. His village had a problem with evil spirits and most of the people searched for a solution at the doctor spirit. They believed and accepted everything the spirit doctor asked for. They followed his opinion on everything. They lived in fear. While Min worked in the fields, his Christian friends talked about Jesus. He thought about their words for a long time then took the decision to learn and meditate on the Bible. Min now loves Jesus as his Lord and Saviour.

These evangelists, who have been in their roles from 10 years to as little as 6 months, lead church services, preach the gospel, visit members, work with their community on church farming and agricultural projects, help build churches and love leading Christmas celebrations!

How has God blessed their work? – “I had no self-confidence but now feel Jesus is always with me”. “My life is full of hope with Jesus”. “Blessings from God come every day”. “I’m no longer afraid as I was before”.

You help fund their evangelism ministry – What do they ask you to pray for?

Family, health, for the conversion of my husband, accomplishing the work, for my preaching place.

Your support, prayers and partnership matters. Many more people in Nan are experiencing peace after a torrid battle with the spirit powers. As partners, not only do we share their joy in Jesus, we can learn much from their war and apply it to the battles we face.
