Sreyleak was eight years old when her father died and her mother left the family in the village of Phum Krus in Cambodia. As the oldest of 4 children, Sreyleak was responsible for feeding and educating her siblings and caring for her grandmother, Who Met.

Life was so tough for her, with no work for her in the village. She spiralled into depression and considered committing suicide. Sreyleak was invited to come to the Life Centre in Phum Krus, where the Lutheran Church in Singapore had been sharing the good news of Jesus Christ in word and actions.

Sreyleak came to know Jesus and was baptised into the Lutheran family in 2010. She began to work as an intern in the ministry in the Life Centre. In 2012 Sreyleak moved to the capital city of Phnom Penh to start studies at the Phnom Penh Bible School, living at the Rainbow student hostel during this time.

Sreyleak was so keen that her family come to know Jesus. Today every one of them, including her mother and grandmother, Who Met have been baptised – into the Lutheran family in the new and emerging Lutheran Church in Cambodia. They are now your brothers and sisters in Christ.

On the 22nd of July, Who Met was present at Sreyleak’s graduation, where Sreyleak received her Bachelor of Theology.

Today Sreyleak is a key leader, helping to lead the ministry in the new and emerging mission field in the village of Tang Krang in Kampong Cham province.

You just need to be there to see and feel the passion Sreyleak and her fellow young ministry leaders have for making Jesus known, through teaching English, leading Saturday school classes, and worship with new and growing group of believers.

Sreyleak’s story is just one of so many stories of the miracle of God’s love in action in Cambodia. You have partnered with Jesus in his mission in Cambodia through the Lutheran Church of Australia’s International Mission and the partnership shared together with Lutheran Women Australia.
